In Office Sedation
At Gulf Coast Urology we understand that having an in office procedure can be stressful and uncomfortable. We offer two forms of safe and effective methods of pain control and anesthesia in our office for any procedure.
Nitrous Oxide by Pro-NoxTM
- Nitrous Oxide or "laughing gas" is one of the oldest and safest methods of helping patient's remain relaxed and comfortable during procedures.
- What to expect - you will remain awake, talking, and in control of how much nitrous you receive as the gas is only on when you take a breath in through the delivery tubing. The gas will help relax you and the procedure will seem to end in just a few moments. Once completed the effect is completely worn off within 20 minutes, and you can even drive yourself home afterwards with no lasting grogginess.
- Pro-NoxTM - this simple device delivers a fixed 50/50 dose of pure oxygen and pure nitrous oxide. There is no way to receive too much nitrous as the machine has no settings other than an on/off switch, and is mechanically limited to the mix of half oxygen and half nitrous.
- Pro-NoxTM is a great option for vasectomies, cystoscopy, prostate biopsies, and bladder neurostimulator lead testing.
Anesthesiologist Monitored Intravenous Sedation
- Several times a month we schedule a group of procedures to be done under IV sedation that is administered and monitored by a board certified anesthesiologist.
- In this setting the patient is asleep but is still breathing on their own, a breathing tube is not required. This type of anesthesia is similar to what patients recieve when they are having wisdom teeth extracted or having a colonoscopy.
- Our anesthesiologist will be there at every step from starting your IV to ensuring that you are comfortable and ready to leave after completion. Your safety is our number one concern, the office is fully stocked with all the same equipment as a hospital operating room and recovery area.
- Patient's will require to be driven home by someone over the age of 18.
- IV sedation is a great option for the above listed procedures as well as circumcisions, scrotal cyst excisions
